About Unbox Robotics
Unbox Robotics builds the world’s most compact, AI-powered mobile robotic sorting and order consolidation systems for warehouses and distribution centers — installing 10X faster, saving 50%+ space, and delivering 3X productivity gains. Backed by marquee investors, we’re scaling our Solutioning team with strong hardware and domain expertise.
The Role
You will be the hardware backbone of the Solutioning team — translating customer operational requirements into deployable sorting and order consolidation solutions. From defining product specifications and releasing BOMs to planning site layouts and questioning operational processes for optimization, you will own the hardware decision-making that bridges engineering capability with real-world warehouse constraints.
Key Responsibilities
- Design end-to-end solution layouts for parcel sorting and order consolidation systems tailored to customer warehouse environments.
- Lead BOM (Bill of Materials) — validate component selection, cost optimization, lead times, and vendor alternatives for every solution proposal.
- Define and refine product specifications by deeply understanding the robotic platform’s mechanical, electrical, and electronics subsystems (drives, sensors, power distribution, charging systems, conveyor interfaces).
- Plan detailed site layouts in collaboration with customers — robot zones, charging stations, induction/discharge points, conveyor routing, buffer areas, and operator workstations etc..
- Assess site civil and structural readiness: flooring type, flatness, load-bearing capacity, floor coatings, expansion joints, ramp gradients, and ceiling clearances.
- Conduct operational process discovery — question existing sorting/consolidation workflows, identify bottlenecks, and propose optimized process designs that leverage robotic capabilities.
- Create 2D CAD layouts (AutoCAD/SolidEdge) and 3D renderings to communicate solution designs to customers and internal teams.
- Collaborate with Mechanical, Electronics, and Production teams to ensure solution designs are manufacturable, serviceable, and field-deployable.
- Support Sales and BD with technical sizing, throughput calculations, ROI models, and solution proposals during customer engagements.
- Run simulations to validate throughput, robot fleet sizing, and system performance against customer SLAs.
Requirements
- B.Tech/B.E. in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics, or related engineering discipline.
- 2–5 years in solution design, product engineering, systems engineering, or industrial/warehouse automation.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and electrical/electronics systems — motors, sensors, power systems, wiring, enclosures, and safety standards.
- Proficiency in 2D CAD (AutoCAD) and/or 3D CAD (SolidEdge, SolidWorks) for layout and product design.
- Hands-on experience with BOM creation, review, and cost analysis across electromechanical assemblies.
- Ability to read and assess civil/structural drawings, flooring specifications, and site infrastructure readiness.
- Strong analytical skills for throughput modeling, fleet sizing, and operational process optimization.
- Excellent communication skills to lead customer workshops, present technical solutions, and drive cross-team alignment.
Good to Have
- Experience with robotic systems, AGVs/AMRs, or conveyor-based automation in warehouse/logistics environments.
- Exposure to simulation tools (FlexSim, AnyLogic, or similar) for material flow and throughput analysis.
- Understanding of industrial safety standards (CE, UL, ISO 12100) and electrical compliance (IEC 60204).
- Familiarity with PLC/SCADA systems and industrial communication protocols (Modbus, Profinet, EtherCAT).
- Knowledge of warehousing operations: sorting methodologies, wave planning, order consolidation strategies, and SLA frameworks.
- Prior experience working directly with customer operations and facility teams on-site.
We Value
- A questioning mindset — you challenge assumptions in ops processes and push for better solutions.
- Strong ownership and end-to-end accountability from concept to deployment.
- Comfort with ambiguity and fast iteration in a start-up environment.
- Hands-on attitude — willingness to visit sites, get on the warehouse floor, and validate designs in the real world.
